Why you do not want to use Geek Squad for your computer repairs.

 

First of all, Geek Squad is a part of Best Buy. I have never liked Best Buy personally because of their poor business practices. For example, they commonly sell the same product for different prices based on what section of the store it is held. They will sell a standard 2gb memory card in the video game section for $19.99 and say that it can only be used for a specific game system. Then, they will have the same exact memory card in the digital camera section selling for $29.99 and routinely tell customers, "this card can only be used for a digital camera and is not the same as any other." Clearly this is a scam and either the employees are too ignorant to know the truth (in which case you don't want them answering any questions) or they are deliberately doing this. If that is the case, they are willingly scamming customers and that is not a place that I want to shop in. What about you?

 

Now what about Geek Squad? There are multiple reports/stories about Geek Squad employees/agents copying the personal and private information of their clients from their computers. There is even a report of a Geek Squad employee installing a webcam on a computer so they could watch the client secretly from the cameras feed. Of course these are most likely isolated incidents and the person(s) responsible have been let go a long time ago, but in my opinion in makes you wonder how much you can trust the people working for them period.

 

In addition to this I have had multiple conversations with various Geek Squad employees who clearly had no clue what they were doing when it came to the computer hardware they were working on. Above all, they charge much more than I do. In some cases their fees are double my own. So if you are looking for fairly priced, reliable, and honest services to be done then they are not who you want.

 

I am always willing to put my work or prices up against theirs anytime. Should you hire me for a job and their prices are cheaper for a specific service, I will match their price plus an extra 10%!! Just show me their add or their webpage advertising the price.
